Here's my design for Chantique. She came about pretty quickly, as in I didn't struggle too much with her design. Pencil, pen, ink, and Photoshop all by me.
Here are the next batch of new characters I am working on. Again, these are very quick and very loose. Maybe less than 30 min to do all three sketches. Quick rough in pencil, then go over it in pen ( I like Uniball Vision .7 gel pen), and do an outline with a sharpie. The outline does a nice job to pull it all together and yet still maintain the spontaneous feel. Still, it's important for me to keep things loose like this so that it's open to little changes and adjustments.
I just finished issue #46-- here are some character designs I did for the arc. Quick pencil rough with pen/marker finish. I love working this way-- it has a spontaneity and energy to it that working in pencils only doesn't. I'll have to try drawing an issue like this one day.
I live in Southern California where it's 90 degrees in the Summer and 70 degrees in the Winter and yet I still find ways to complain.
